SCHOOLS’ TOURNAMENT.

BASKETBALL AND RUGBY. INTERESTING CONTESTS. The Ashburton County Schools Sports Association Basketball and Rugby football tournaments were held in the Ashburton Domain to-day. The morning broke fine, and later the atmosphere became quite warm. The grounds were in good order and the arrangements made by the teachers resulted in matches being got off without any delay. There was not a large attendance of the public, but the players were given plenty of encouragement from the children on the side-lines. Results: —

BASKETBALL. Senior Grade. First round: Ashburton East B beat Allenton B, Allenton A beat Borough C, Tinwald A beat Convent A, Tinwald B, Ashburton East A, and Convent, Borough A and B had byes.
