The Hon. E. A. Ransom, who is delivering a series of addresses in the Motueka, Takaka, and Nelson districts, was accorded a civic reception at Motueka. He congratulated Nelson and! Motueka settlers on their mastery of intensive cultivation during the years of depression. All had to make sacrifices. The Government had not sought popularity, and had tried to do its best for the people as a whole. Mr Ransom addressed a well-attend-ed meeting at Motueka last evening. Ho will speak at Takaka. to-night and at. Nelson on Monday. Mr Ransom visited the tobacco-grow-ing areas and inspected an experimental shipment of leaf to be exported next month, carrying a Government guarantee of a shilling a pound l . The purpose is to find a new market for New 7 Zealand leaf and to test the quality compared with that of other countries. Great Britain has offered a preferential tariff of 2s OJd for Empire - grown leaf.
