BRAVERY RECOGNISED

HUMANE SOCIETY AWARDS.

(Per Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, September 20. A framed certificate of the Iloyal Humane Society of New Zealand was presented to Frederick Robert Fleming, of Christchurch, by the president of the Society (Canon ,\V. S. Bean), at a meeting of the Society’s court of directors to-day.

Fleming, who is 14 years of age, .attempted to rescue Ins father, Frederick Fleming, from drowning at Scarborough on February 10 of this year. He kept his father afloat until other help arrived. Among the awards approved by the court wei-o an “in memoriam” certificate and silver medal for the next-of-kin of Constable H. Williams, who was drowned while attempting to .rescue Miss Daisy Hislop from the Waikato River. Charles A. Clarke, who attempted to rescue both Constable Williams and Miss Hislop, was also awarded the Society’s silver medal. Other awards were: Joseph McCreanor, framed ©srtifi* cate for rescuing Lionel Honey bone and Frederick Shad bo It from drowning at Hurunui. Eric John Reynolds, bronze medal for rescuing George Alfred Daveren from drowning in the Waikato li-ivei. Harold Thomas- Lawn, silver medal for the attempted l rescue of Mrs Esther Jane Newman from a burning aeioplane at Waiho. Martin Alluin, framed certificate for rescuing Frank Moss from di owning at Bluff. . . , Qeorgo Dunston, bronze medal lor rescuing Jack Mooney, of Waihi, from drowning at Whititoa.
