ALLEGED OVERCHARGE
GROCERIES FOR A HOSPITAL.
LARGE BUM AT AUCKLAND

Alleged overcharges by the firm which had the contract for the supply of groceries to the Auckland Hospital Board under its relief scheme are estimated to have amounted to £997 Jui ing the year 1934-33, when the total value of groceries supplied was £2-1,733. The matter was the subject of ail investigation by a firm of public . accountants at the instance of the board's solicitors. It lias been decided to issue a writ against the contractor for the recovery of the money allegedly overpaid. After dealing seriatum with each of the commodities in respect of which overcharges are alleged, the accountants summarised the claim to be made against {he contractor as • follows: — Butter £661, sugar £7B, eggs £229. candles (estimate) £l2, sundry overcharges (estimate) £23; total £997.
