ARMY MANOEUVRES

BIGGEST IN BRITAIN SINCE 1925.

SEVERAL ARMS ENGAGED

(United Press Association —Copyright)

LONDON, September 18. Four infantry divisions, four tank battalions, two' cavalry brigades and eight air squadrons are engaged in the army manoeuvres, which began last night, and which are the .first la rescale manoeuvres since 1925. The area of operations lies between Aldershot, Salisbury, and Southampton. At the start, fairly evenly-balanced armies of Eastland and Westland faced each other across a neutral zone, sonic 50 miles long by 20 miles broad, which was assumed to contain a valuable mineral area. In addition to giving the higher command practice in managing large bodies of troops, the manoeuvres will provide an opportunity for noting the new problems introduced by the increasing mechanisation of the forces.
