Referring to the Abyssinian situation, the president of the Free Church Council (the Rev. Dr. Honvood) declared tha ta turning point m history was approaching. It would be memoiable throughout the world and perhaps throughout the ages. It would demonstrate whether the old had order was to be brought to a noble climax oi whether through man’s failure wo must re-enter the valley of the shadow and learn the inevitable lesson. The Moderator of the Evangelical Free Churches’ Council (the Roy. Dr. Sydney Berry) said that the ®. G Churches unreservedly supported Britain’s declarations at Geneva. He added that it would seem that the world was stark mad with rampant nationalism and warlike gestures, threatening to engulf mankind. The National Liberal Federation unanimously welcomed the British statement and pledged wholehearted support by Liberals.
SOUTH AFRICA AND LEAGUE.
THE OPPOSITION’S ATTITUDE. CAPE TOWN, September 18. Dr. Malan (leader of the Opposition) declared that pending reform of the League, South Africa must remain neutral. If the Government decided othenviso tho Nationalists would fight it tooth and nail, but if the Leaguo decided to apply sanctions other than military, South Africa must do its duty to the League.
