THE GALA
POPULAR ASSISTANT CONTEST. WINNERS IN THEi FIRST LAP. The most popular lady assistant contest which is being conducted by the sports section of the Labour Day Gala Committee has attracted a good deal of attention. It is being divided into laps of one week each, and each lap is complete so far as the voting is concerned.
The first lap closed on Saturday at noon, when Miss M. Henderson was leading, with Mr G. Bairstow second, and Miss Hogg third. The lap winners will receive a prize of 10s 6d. Voters can have whatever votes they have sold recorded, even if it is only one, by taking their book to Mr Fnrby’s office in Burnett Street, and having it registered, and' still retain possession of the book.
Voters would greatly assist the scrutineers if when voting they see that the initials of the person they are voting for are entered on the butt of their books. The promoters expect voting to be steady in the meantime, but as Gala Day approaches it will probably reach high totals.
