MIDIAN WINS HIGGIE HANDICAP
WANGANUI,, Sept. 14
The Wanganui Jockey Club’s spring meeting was concluded to-day in glorious weather before an improved attendance. The track was m excellent order. The totaiisator handled £12,109 compared with £l 1,015, making £19,152 10s for the meeting, against £18,611 10s, an increase of £541. An inquiry was held into interference with Royal Banquet in the Higgie Handicap. The incident was held to be accidental.
Concluding results: — Wanganui Guineas, of 200 sovs; one mile.—2 Alchemic (C. Shield) I, 1 Haut Monde 2, 3 Lower)berg 3. Won by a short length. Time, 1.44. Higgie Handicap, of 145 sovs; one mile and a distance.—2 Midian (R. McTavish) 1, 3 Person 2, 4 Carfex 3. Won by a head. Time, 1.57. , Moutoa Hack Handicap, of 130 sovs; one mile and a distance—2 Silver Brier (N. McKenzie; 1, 0 Sporting Song 2, 1 Bantry 3. W’on by a length. Time, 1.57.

MOONEE VALLEY RACES. NEW ZEALANDERS PROMINENT. MELBOURNE, September 14. The weather was damp for the Moonee Valley Racing Club’s meeting to-day. Results: — Boomerang Hurdle Race, of 300 sovs; two miles and half a furlong—Cape Fair (N'.Z.) 9.9 (A. Sullivan) 1, Rob Mclteid 9.7 2, Purveyor 9.11 3. Won by a length; two lengths between second and third. 'Lime, 3.52 L Moonee Valley Stakes, of 1000 sovs; for three-year-olds; seven furlongs and a half—Valiant Chief (K. Voitre) 1, Garrio and Carnarvon (dead-lieat) 2. There were eight starters. Won by a short head. Time, 1.35 J. Moonee Valley Steeplechase, of 1000 sovs; about two miles and* a half and six chains —Character 9.10 (L. Meagher) 1, Wanconner 9.9 2, Membo 10.7 3. There were 18 starters, including Makeup and Shatter, both finishing close up. Won by half a length; two lengths and a half between second and third. Time, 5.8 —a course record. Autumn Wind (Paper Money —Wild Work), owned by Mr G. J. Barton, was second in the first division of the Corhoberee Maiden Handicap, and Dazzling Raid was unplaced in the same race.
Metro, Palatinate and North Cape were unplaced in the ‘Budgeree Handicap, which, was won by Hyperion. The first division of the Nulla Nulla Welter Handicap, of 300 sovs, six furlongs, was won by Mr W. R. Kemball’s Air Race. Perfect Idea was unplaced in this race.
PORT ADELAIDE GUINEAS. BEAMISH BOY AGAIN. ADELAIDE, September 14. At the Port Adelaide races the following was the result of the Port Adelaide Guineas, of 250 sovs; nine furlongs and 40 1 yards —Beamish Boy 8.10 (E. Bastian) 1, Pimpeau 8.5 2, Great Edward 8.5 3. TATTERSALL’S CLUB. SPORTING BLOOD WINS. SYDNEY, September 14. Tattersall’s Club meeting at Randwick to-day was favoured by fine, bright weather after three days of light rain. The course was a trifle holding. Results:— Tramway Handicap, of 500 sovs; seven furlongs—Lough Neagh 8.4 (Shean) 1, King’s Head 7.7 2, Gay Blonde 8.0 3. Won by four leng£hs; a length and a half between second and third. Time, 1.26|.
Chelmsford Stakes, of 1000 sovs; weight-for-age; one mile .and a furlong —Sylvamdale 9.7 (J. Pratt) 1, Contact 9.0 2, Rogilla 9.8 3. Won by threequarters of a length; a head between second and third. Time, l.odg. Spring Handicap, of 500 sovs; one mile and a quarter—Sporting Blood 8.9 (I). Munro) 1, Ivagal 6.12 2, Break Up 8.4 3. There were 16 starters, including Thee and Queen Helen. Won by a length, and a half; a length and a quarter between second and third. Time, 2.8.
Welter Handicap, of 300 sovs; one mile—Narbethong 8.2 (L. J. Ellis) 1, Golden Gate 9.5 2, Scratchmere Scar 9.0 3. There were 15 starters, including Cherry King, Golden Chance and Viceroy. Won by four lengths; two lengths between second and third. Time, 1.41. The jockey F. Hood was suspended for three months for continuing in the hurdle race on African after his mount ran off at one of the jumps. J. Piker, rider of Synagogue, stated that the horse did not relish the heavy going, and went most unkindly after striking a particularly bad patch.
