THE WEATHER
OVERCAST SKIES. After a very pleasant week-end, conditions in Ashburton to-day were dull and cold. Showers threatened for a while yesterday afternoon, but the sky cleared later. There were signs of rain this afternoon, but only a few drops had fallen up till 3 o’clock. The maximum temperature on Saturday was 53.2 degrees, and the minimum was 29.8 degrees. There was a frost of seven degrees during the night, and the rain gauge registered one point of rain.
The highest reading of the thermometer yesterday was 50 degrees, and the lowest in the night was 36.9 degrees, giving a frost of 1.3 degrees. The barometer yesterday morning stood at 29.97 inches, and this morning at 29.90 inches.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Th© Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General inference: A cyclone is centred west of the Auckland Peninsula, and has been spreading southward. The forecast for the east coast'of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Increasing easterly winds. Weather dull and misty, with rain and some heavy falls. Seas moderate, but rising.
