SOILS OF THE COUNTY

EXPERTS’ COMPREHENSIVE REPORT. ,

PRESENTED TO COUNTY COUNCIL

An exhaustive report on the soils of Ashburton County, prepared by Dr. L. I. Grange, of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, has been presented to the Ashburton County Council and was before members at the meeting this afternoon. Dr. Grange spent several months carrying out his investigations, and the report of his findings has been eagerly awaited, as great importance attaches to it in view of the plans that are being drawn up in connection with large irrigation schemes in the County. The report contains a number of tables of rainfall and: analyses of soils in many parts of tile district, and is accompanied by a largo map in colour showing rainfalls and soil fertility.
