Lieutenant W. H. Osborne '(conductor of the Timaru Municipal Band) has been appointed judge of the Amberley band contest in October.

The appointment of Miss Grace WiddoAVSon as assistant matron at the Christehil ch Hospital Avas approved by the Hospital Board to-day (says a Press Association telegram).

Sergeant Patrick Cassidy, who has been in charge of the Rangiora police district for the last 14 years, will retire from active service on September 11, when he will have completed 38 years of service with the New Zealand police force. Sergeant Cassidy was at one time in charge of the Rakaia station, where, among other duties, he was clerk to the Selwyn Licensing Committee, which then controlled the whole of the Ellesmere district.
