RAILWAY BLOCKED
SLIP ON MAIN TRUNK LINE.
A GANGER SLIGHTLY INJURED.
ANOTHER ALSO PARTLY BURIED.
HILLSIDE OF PUMICE FALLS. (Per Press Association.) •<, TAUMARUNUI, This Day. A slip of pumice on the Main Trunk line, 2| miles south of Ongartie, held up railway traffic last night. Slips were occurring all day yesterday, and gangers were at work clearing the line. About 1 o’clock this morning the whole hillside seemed to slip away, and two gangers, named Gascoyne and Williams, were partly buried and had to bo dug out. ... Mr Gascoyne was slightly injured in the legs and suffered shock. He was sent to the Taumarunui Hospital for treatment. Air 'Williams was not injured. The debris covered the line a chain in length and 10 feet high. Passengers by the night expresses A from Auckland' and Wellington were transferred at the slip. The pumice being dry, it made good walking, and all were •transferred with as little inconvenience as possible. A breakdown train has been sent from Taumarunui to deal' with the slip, but thy line is not }<et clear for traffic.
