NEW PUBLICATION

“GEOGRAPHICAL MAGAZINE.” . There has lately been established in England a monthly magazine that should quickly establish itself in popular favour.. It is “The Geographical Magazine,” which is designed to describe the work and; experiences of travellers and explorers in out-of-the-way lands. Month by month it will tell of travel in various parts of the world; the customs and everyday lives of peoples strung to English readers; and the endless work of man in transforming the earth to his own uses —the clearing and foiling of the soil—the gathering of'its innumerable riches — the damming of great rivers—the building of cities and the smooth organisation of transport. It will tell of hardships which man has faced and still faces on mountain tops, in deserts and jungles, at the frozen poles, in the air and beneath the sea, in his continual struggle to conquer nature. The issue sent by Mr Newton Jones for review contains, among other interesting features, an instalment of a series on flying to India by Wing-Com-mander A. R. Cooper; “Peking,” by Sir Reginald Johnston; “The Folk Dance in Europe,” “Himalayan Pilgrims,” and “Lions at Home.” There is a beautiful coloured plate, “In the Naero Fjord,” and as the magazine is printed on art paper, the letterpress and illustrations —of which there are many—is of a- very high standard. Those who are interested in the study of life in little-known lands will be delighted with “The Geographical Magazine.” “Weldon’s Bazaar of Children’s Fashions” for August contains the instructive and interesting features always associated with this publication. The needlework section is especially attractive, and purchasers will receive good value for their money. “West” for mid-July features a complete cowboy novel by Bennett Foster, and has other stories that will appeal to readers of that class of fiction. These magazines were receved from Gordon and Gotch, Ltd., through Mr Newton Jones. *
