CANTERBURY BRANCH OF INSTITUTE THE EIGHTH ANNUAL (DINNER The eighth annual meeting and dinner of the Canterbury and Marlborough branch of the New Zealand Institute of County Clerks was held at Christchurch last evening, when the following members and associates were present: Messrs L. J. Collins, president, (Waimate), A. Wells Newt-on, vice-presi-dent, (Eyre), G. S. Cowper, (Waimairi), S. G. Dailey (Rangioraj, Jas. MacKenzie (Halsuell), A. C. Kdnner (Wairewa), J. P. E. Veale (Heatlicote), E* R. Hopwood (Ashburton), C l . M. Moody (Waimairi), M. R. Pilbrow (Ashburton), L. E. Smith (Waimate), and G. J. Broker, secretary and treasurer (Ashburton). ’The president extended a welcome to Mr J. iP. 10. Veale, a new member, and to Mr A. C. Renner, who had returned to the district, congratulating him and also Messrs C. A. Belcher, C. B. Bird and L. E. Smith upon their new aapointments. Ho reported upon the activities >of the branch during the year, and matters of general interest. Financial statements, showing a satisfactory position, were received. The matter of voting rights for associate members was discussed, and it was decided to submit the matter to the general conference to be held in Wellington shortly. Notice was given by Mr Collins of his intention to move at the next annual meeting that in future the annual meeting be held in. November instead of in August.

It was decided to hold a meeting next November, if possible, the programme to be arranged by Christchurch members.

Mr L. L. Collins gave a short address on the subject of “Riding Accounts,” for which he received a hearty vote of thanks.

Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: —President, Mr A. Wells Newton (Eyre); vice-president, Mr A. A. Readdie (Geraldine); executive, president, vice-president, Messrs G. Kelly (Ashburton); G. S. Cooper (Waimairi), L. J. Collins (Waimate), J. P. E. Veale (Heathcote) and the secretary and treasurer; auditor, Mr Jas. MacKenzie (Halswell); secretary and treasurer, Mr G. J. Broker (Ashburton).
