AEROPLANE TESTED
MINOR ADJUSTMENTS NEEDED.
FLOWN BY ASHBURTON PILOT. One of the two Boeing aeroplanes belonging to New Zealand Airways, Ltd., was examined for airworthiness at Wigram aerodrome on Saturday morning by Flight-Lieutenant H. B. Burrell (Inspector of Civil Aviation), and it is understood that, except in a few small details, it complied with requirements. The aeroplane was flown from Dunedin by Mr Keith Johnston On Friday and returned after the examination on Saturday. It carried four passengers on the return trip, including Mr H. M. Mackay, of Dunedin, managing director of New Zealand Airways, Ltd. It is thought likely that the other Boeing aeroplane, which is in Dunedin, will also be able to pass the examination, but because of the difficulty the company is having in obtaining passenger service, licenses for the two machines it is said to- be likely that an order placed by the company for three more similar aeroplanes will be cancelled.
Mr Johnston was the first Aero Club trained pilot in Ashburton. He is now commercial pilot for New Zealand Airways, Ltd.
