VICE-REGAL VISIT
THEIR EXCELLENCIES IN THE CITY. The Governor-General, Lord Galway, and Lady Galway arrived in Christchurch on Saturday morning to spend a week in the city. Their Excellencies are staying at the: United Service Hotel and accompanying them are Captain A. Heber-Percy, A.D.C., of the Grenadier Guards, and JMajor Arthur Purvis and Mrs Purvis.
Their Excellencies had an exceptionally busy) day, not only fulfilling several public engagements, but‘finding time to meet visitors representing many public organisations in the city. Yesterday Lord and Lady Galway attended Matins at the Cathedral at 11 o’clock. The preacher at the service was Bishop West-Wat son, and the lessons were read by his Excellency. At 3 o’clock. Lord Galway attended the consecration service of the Old Contemptibles’ Association at the Cathedral, afterwards inspecting a parade of members of the association, with members of the Veterans’ and Returned Soldiers’ Associations, outside the Cathedral. Later in the afternoon Lord and Lady Galway were entertained at afternoon tea at Bishopsconrt by the Bishop and Mrs West-Waison.
For the greater part of to-day Lord and Lady Galway were occupied with private engagements. His Excellency will visit the Officers’ Club at 5.30 p.m., and at 7 p.m., with Captain Heber-Percy and Major Purvis, he will dine with the president and members of the Christchurch Club. In the evening Lady Galway will visit the Canterbury! Women’s Club.
Lord and; Lady Galway will attend the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Riccarton to-morrow, arriving after the first race. In the evening they will be present at the Hunt Club Bali.
