METHVEN. The final of a series of progressive euchre tournaments organised by the Methven sub-branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. Prizes were won by Airs A. Grieve and Aliss AI. Grieve, and Alessrs J. Gordon and W. Lumsden, first and second respectively. Afterwards an enjoyable supper provided by the ladies of the committee was served. Airs Wootton (president of the subbranch) thanked all who had assisted at the various functions. A well-attended meeting of the benedicts and spinsters of the Methven district was held on Alonday evening, when final arrangements in connection with the annual ball to be held on Friday were made. Alessrs W. R> Owers and W. J. Dolan were appointed masters of ceremonies.
A largely-attended meeting of members of St. John’s (Presbyterian) Church was held on Tuesday evening. Air H. E. A. Lock (a member of the Board of Managers), who presided, said it had been decided to extend a farewell to 1 the .Rev. Richard Alorgan on his retirement. It was decided to hold the function in the Town Hall on Monday, August 2f>. A committee was appointed to arrange suitable items. Representatives of local churches and other bodies with which Air Morgan has been connected with are to be invited to attend. STAVELEY At a meeting of_the committee of the newly-appointed Staveley Aliniature Rifle Club the captain (Air Murdoch Bruce) presided. It was reported that arrangements were well in hand for the first annual ball of the club. The following committee has been formed to arrange the ball: —Messrs M. Bruce, E. Boucher, H. Goldsmith, N. Watson, A. Langridge, H. Norman and E. Boucher (secretary).
