Alessrs E. J. Parr and Learning (secondary school inspectors) concluded a two-days’ visit to the Ashburton High School to-day.
Mesdames J. Cracroft Wilson, B. H. Gilmour and F. W. Seldon '(Ashburton) were elected to the Dominion Council of the New Zealand Plunket Society at the provincial conference of the society held at Christchurch on Tuesday.
Air H. Dickson, who has retired from business after having been in China for the past 22 years, where he had charge of a large bulk oil depot, has arrived at Hinds with Mrs Dickson, who was formerly Miss Farrell. Air and Mrs Dickson will reside in Ashburton County.
At the meeting of the St. Stephen’s Literary and Social Club last evening the president (Air S. AI. Cassidy) presented to Mr 0. Attwood a volume donated by Mr E. A. Cockroft (headmaster of the Ashburton High School) for the best speaker in the recent debate between the club and the High School Debating Club.
A Press Association telegram from Wellington states that Mr Alan Mulgan, a well-known Auckland journalist, has been appointed to the staff of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board as supervisor of broadcasting talks. He will take up his duty about the end of September.
