WOMEN’S HOCKEY RELAY EVENT

SPRINTS CHAMPION THE WINNER

During the interval of the principal women’s hockey match on the Domain Oval on Saturday a wheelbarrow relay race was staged. The “pushers” were members of the Tinwald Club and tlie passengers, officials of the Ashburton Association. The course was once round the cycle track, and three teams faced the starter.

The winning combination was Misses P. Baker and F. Gudsell with Mr E. Davidson as passenger. Second place was filled by Misses M. Chapman and A. Loach, who wheeled Mr W. C. Bishop. The other team was Misses M. Henderson and I. Haack, Mr S. M. Johnston occupying the barrow. Miss Baker took the lead early and was ten yards ahead of tlie next competitor when Miss Gudsell took charge of the “machine.” iShe won comfortably with a good sprint, and there was 30 yards between second and third.
