NEW PROCESS
ARTIFICIAL MANURE.
PRODUCTION IN NEW ZEALAND.
(Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, July 25
Production in the Dominion of a new artificial manure is promised in the immediate future. The fertiliser, which will be in the phospliatic group, is expected to make New Zealand eventually independent of importations of basic slag. It is not anticipated that it will be in any way competitive against superphosphate, and so far from interfering with the existing industry it will create additional employment in several directions. The manufacturing process, which involves the use of rock phosphate, coal, and limestone, is expected to be started shortly at Huntly, to create supplies for use in the coming season in the Auckland district.
The general principles of the process make use of as small units as possible, and further plants will probably be established wherever the materials required are easily available and an agricultural demand exists. Since the process was discovered 18 months ago by Mr J. A. Heskett, of the Onakaka Iron and Steel Company, Ltd., considerable preliminary work has been necessary in proving the manure.
