AUCKLAND WEST SEAT. DEMOCRATS’- WOMAN CANDIDATE (Per Preks Association). AUCKLAND, July 24. The Democrat party will nominate Mrs Suzanne Mabel Milne as the party’s candidate for the Auckland West seat, at present held by Mr M. J. Savage (leader of the Opposition.) Mr H. C. Baulf, the party’s Auckland representative, said Mrs Milne was a prominent worker in the Women’s Institute, and had been a foundation member of the Auckland centre. She was one of the lectuieis on the panel of the institute and was well known throughout the Auckland province. For 18 months she had spoken from radio station IYA on health topics..

BAY OF PLENTY SEAT.

MR J. T. MERRY TO STAND. GISBORNE, July 24. A meeting of supporters of the National Government was held at Matawai to-day to select a candidate to represent the party for the Bay of Plenty seat, Mr K. S. Williams having intimated some time ago that he did not intend to stand because of illhealth. All areas in the widelyspread constituency were represented at the meeting, and after discussion Mi- J. T. Merry, of Opotiki, was unanimously selected as the official National candidate. The delegates also passed a resolution expressing gratitude to Mr Williams for his long service as member for Bay of Plenty, and sincere wishes for his early recovery.

NATIONAL POLITICAL FEDERATION.

SUPPORT IN THE A AVARUA ELECTORATE. INVERCARGILL, July 24. The Hon. R. Masters, who visited Winton to-day, was met by a large gathering of representatives from all parts of the Awarua electorate, who expressed their desire to form an organisation to further the candidature of the Nationalist candidate for that electorate. At the end of the meeting the following resolution was carried unanimously:— * “That this meeting, composed of representatives of the Reform and United parties in the Awarua electorate, whole-heartedly agrees with the decision of the two parties to form a National Government, and for the amalgamation ol the two organisations for the purpose of electing; Nationalist candidates at the forthcoming election. We further pledge ourselves to do everything possible to secure the return of the selected Nationalist candidate for this electorate, and to bring this about we undertake to form a local branch of the National Political Federation.”
