TENNIS.

THE DAVIS CUP CONTEST. VON GRAMM BEATS ALLISON. Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, July 22. In the interzone final of the Davis Cup contest, von Gramm (Germany) defeated H. W. Allison (United States), 8-6, 6-3, 6-4. A terrific fight developed in the first set. The American led 3-1, 4-2, and appeared to haye the set in hand when the German increased the pressure of his service drives. He won the set after every point had been fought out in long rallies. The second set was a tamer affair, von Crtynm being definitely the superior all round. He outdrove and out-manceuvred Allison.

Allison struggled desperately in the third set, but his tendency to overdrive and double fault at critical stages lost him chances. Allison’s occasional brilliance was not a match for the German’s steadier resourcefulness.
