Reports that an aeroplane is in readiness to take the former King george to Athens at a moment’s notico were denied! by the Mayor of Athens, who arrived in London, it is believed, to consult the former King about the plebiscite. The Daily Herald” says the Mayor spent the day with King George at his hotel. The Mayor tolcl the reporter that rumours of a coup d’etat were absurd, and that the King would wait until the people asked him to return. The Athens correspondent of the “Daily Herald” says the general opinion in Greece is that the Mayor tolcl the King that his chances in the plebiscite were poor, and that he should therefore ask the Government to postpone or abandon the poll. The Cabinet has banned meetings either for or against the present regime until after the plebiscite.
