The controversy which has arisen because members of the British Legion had not placed a wreath on the Nazi memorial, as was expected, has been explained. The ceremony was announced before members of the legion had been consulted. Majpr Featherston and General Godley took the view that as the sole object was to make contact with German ex-servicemen they could not take part in. a political demonstration.
