Technical Old Girls A (white) v. Tinwald (maroon). —This game was perhaps the fastest and most spectacular, of the season and spectators were treated to basketball at its best though toward the end, and occasionally when scores were close, there was a tendency to over-keenness. Tinwald were most, unfortunate in losing the services of Miss Hewson, who was a most unwilling ispectator. From a penalty just after the start Miss McGee opened for Maroon. Misses Wells, McLennan and Roulston did good work in excliauges between Maroon centres mid White guards. Miss Stringer made a pretty opening which Mrs Holland made good use of to ring a neat shot. Fast and furious and beautifully accurate passiug followed, in which every player was on the alert and in place. Maroon centres exploited the long shot which was successful for a few times, but which later was a source of weakness as Misses Wells, McLennan and Harper soon turned it to their own advantage. For Maroon, Misses Bell, Wilson, , Stalker and Miles often flashed into brilliance. At half-time Tinwald led 7-6. The second half opened with a beautiful movement by Misses Stringer, (Joldicott and Mrs Holland for Miss McMillan to shoot a beauty. An equally fine effort by Misses Harper, Stringer, Orowther and Coldicott enabled Miss McMillan to put White ahead. Then Misses Wells and Stalker took turns in spectacular defence. Fine work in ail thirds gave White another goal, though only after three shots. Maroon centres worked the ball back and, from a penalty, Miss McGee, shot. Miss Stalker launched an attack which was carried on by Misses Roulston and Wilson, for Miss Forsyth to bring the scores to 9-all. A smart intercept by Miss Stringer - enabled Mrs Holland to put White ahead. A period of ragged
play followed, and oven-eagerness gave rise to several infringements. Misses Grice, Stalker and Bell made openings, but the shots missed. Miss Wells cleared to Miss Stringer for Miss McMillan to make a pretty shot. This was repeated shortly with an even better goal by Miss McMillan.. Maroon strained every nerve to make up the leeway, Misses Miles, Bell and McGee beingparticularly good, but White held! them off to win by the comfortable margin of three points, the final score bemg: Technical 12, Tinwald 9. Convent Old Girls (green) y. St. Stephen’s (blue).—Blue was much too fast for Green and it ran up' the large score of 21-7. Green commenced with one player short, and early in the second half it was unlucky enough to lose Miss E. McDonnell, who had - to retire with a sprained ankle. Green centres tried many long shots, mucn to the enjoyment of Misses Spedding and Coward, who revelled in intercepting them and making them the startin” point of their attacks. A feature of the game was the fast passing or Blue all players being particularly accurate. The absence of Miss Mahoney was not missed as much as it mig have been had not Miss Wallis risen to the occasion and shot 13 wottoan.like goals from 18 shots. For Miss Smith had a good run with hve goals from seven siiots. Miss U. Miller had charge of the game. Chertsey (Light Green) v. Higl School Old Girls (Gold).— The game opened briskly with both teams soon « in quick succession. This was followed, by a beautiful shot by Miss Smith fiom bht„d the 12 loot line. Chertsey were unlucky in several shots at goal an , after much ragged play on both sides. Miss Wilson secured and goaledi lot Gold. Consistently good defence toy the Misses Burrowes and Robinson cost Old Girls many chances, but, after a neat shot by Miss Redman, they settled down and ringed three m succession, all of them beauties by Miss 'Wilson. This brought the halttime score to : Old Girls 8, Chertsey -
The second half was much more even, Blue actually getting the larger part of the play. Tlieir forwards failed, though, to take advantage of the opportunities offered, none of the shooting being good. On the other hand, Miss Wilson for Gold did some good work at the ring, and this enabled Gold to hold the superior position till Miss R. Doalc signalled ‘finis’ with the score, 15-7 in favour of High School Old Girls. St. Andrew’s (Blue) v. Technical Old Girls B (White). —White had a very comfortable win with a score of 18-6. White players were much quicker in getting into position, and they held these positions more consistently than did their opponents. Blue players failed to keep with their opponents, and they failed to anticipate where the ball was going nutil too late. "White defence held off attacks, and their forwards had a, good day, Miss Donaldson putting up the; splendid record of 11 goals from 14 attempts. Her partner, Miss Tait, goaled 6 from 10 shots. For Blue Miss Lithgow did 1 her duty nobly when she got the chance by ringing 4 from 6 shots. Miss It. M. Doak controlled the game. Rokeby (Red) v. Technical School.— This was the final in the junior grade between two previously unbeaten teams'. The game was worthy of the occasion, though occasionally both sets
of forwards suffered 1 from attacks of nervousness. For the first half School had slightly the better of the play, but missed shots left them one down with the score 10-9 against them at halftime. On the other hand, llokeby took advantage of almost every chance, the Misses Penney shooting in lightning underhand passes for Miss Cromie to shoot. Some of the senior teams might well copy this speciality of the Poke by Steam. The opening of the second half was quite exciting, and the scord crept to 2 all. After this the steadiness of Red put them ahead. Their height and their increasing confidence enabled them to take advantage of every mistake of School players, and they finished _up with 21-7 to win the junior shield with a well-played game. Outstanding players for Rokeby were all the forwards and Misses Honeywell, Gimson, Crozier and L. Cromie. For School, Misses Hooper, Cruickshank, Makinson, Bishop and Rogers did their parts well. Miss C. Tyndall controlled the game. Allenton (Grey) v. St. Stephen’s (Blue) —In this, the final of the third grade competition, two previously unbeaten teams met. Over-eagerness spoiled the play, and as each side scored goal for goal the game lost its steadiness and became rather rough and ragged. The final bell went with the score 5 all, but between the bell and the whistle Allenton snatched a lastsecond victory when Miss N. Pollock shot a pretty goal.
