BLEAK WIND PREVAILS. Conditions were ideal in Ashburton yesterday, following a frost of 7.4 degrees intensity in the morning. The sun shone in a clear sky and there was little movement in the air. After a cold night, a frost of 8.4 degrees was registered this morning. Fog hung over the town hut cleared for the sun to shine until the sky clouded! over before noon. The barometric, pressure at 9 o clock this morning was 30.13 inches, and that yesterday morning 30.19 inches. ■ Extremes of temperature yesterday and last night were 49 degrees and 27.7 degrees, and those on Saturday 51.9 degrees and 28.7 degrees. Heavy dew on Saturday night and last night was responsible -.for the rain gauge at the Domain \\ oathei station recording one point of moisture yesterday and this morning. TODAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteoralagist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General inference: An anti-cyclone still covers the Dominion, and is moving gradually eastward. A series of depressions has continued to pass to the north of New Zealand. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows: — Moderate north-easterly winds, freshening shortly. Weather fair and mild, but clouds increasing, and later showers or misty rain likely. Seas moderate.
