HOCKEY MATTERS.

Sir, —I have been a constant reader of your paper for the last 2o years, and have always been keenly interested in the correspondence column. The letter under the nom-de-plirme cf “Shinty” is not worthy of a primary: schoolboy. It appears to be the ravings of some disgruntled player who was not included in the eleven selected to represent the County against Dylian Cliand’s men. The Ashburton team’s score of 9-1 against St. Stephen’s (are they ‘•Shinty’s” men?) compare favourably with the Indian’s score against the County team.

The interests of hockey would) benefit more by “Shinty’s” silence than such senseless wailings. I have always been under the impression that the definition of a sport was one who acknowledged defeat and! victory in the same spirit. SPORT.
