CITY RELIEF WORK

NEW POLICY IN CHRISTCHURCH. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 16. A change, in the system of relief works carried out by the Clmstc line i City Council based on the employment of about 50 men at standard rates oi pay and the employment of as many more as possible on unsubsidised, relict work is to be made by the council in terms of a resolution carried at a meeting to-night. The proposal involves the abolition of the 2s a clay paid to relief workers employed by the City Council, a policy inaugurated by tho previous council, which was controlled by a Labour majority -The scheme is estimated to cost £IO,OOO.
