DOUBLING MOSCOW
RECONSTRUCTION IN DECADE. THE SOVIET’S GREAT PLAN. (United Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, July 12. The Moscow correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that the Soviet has adopted a 10-year plan for the reconstruction and 1 enlargement of Moscow to twice its present size. Dilarpidated houses will be demolished and new ones erected, none of which must be less than six storeys high. All streets will be widened and asphalted. A great new street, Lenin’s Avenue, will be cut through the centre of the city. The boundaries of Moscow will be extended by more than 70,000 acres. The famous Red Square will bo doubled in size, and 11 new river bridges will be built.
The erection of 530 schools, 17 hospitals and 50 new cinemas is also included in the plan. “Izvestia” says the plan is ltussia’s latest challenge to the capitalist woild where such big-scale reconstruction is impossible. “The reconstructed Moscow will reflect tho splendour of the Socialist existence,” it- says.
