RULE ABANDONED.
MARRIED WOMEN EMPLOYED. (Special to the “ Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, June IS. There has been rejoicing in an Auckland city business establishment as the result of a decision by an employer of 70 girls to reverse his hard-and-fast rule not to employ married women. During the past few years this business mail has been religious in the practice of dismissing young women who. have elected to get married, but early in the present year he came to the conclusion that he' was robbing quite a number of employees of the opportunity of marriage owing to the intended husband’s earnings being insufficient. When his decision was niade\Jio called together his employees and made the announcement that lie was willing to employ people “in double harness.” The popularity of the move has been shown by the fact that since February there lias been a steady procession of young women from his place of business to the church, nine weddings having been celebrated by liis employeees since that time.
