AUCKLAND REQUEST.
BUSINESS GIRLS’ TRAM FARES. (Special to the “Guardian.”) AUCKLAND, June 18. “I am hoping that the beard will consider issuing weekly tickets to the young business girl,” said a resident of Sandringham in a letter received by the Transport Board to-day. “My husband and I one morning, in five minutes, counted 157 cycling from Grafton Bridge to this avenue. “Now the winter is just on us I would be very grateful if you would grant this request,” continued the letter. “The road is too dangerous this skiddy weather, and the full fare is too expensive for the girls on the wage paid to-day. Do you think a 2s 6d worker’s ticket .would pay the trams if only granted for the winter months to try it out? I am a member of the Mothers’ Club of the Y.W.C.A., and so many mothers tell me they cannot afford the trams that I am _ sure there are many parents who will be very thankful if we can get this favour granted.” The letter was referred to the hoard in committee.
