NEW GERMAN ARMY

The first conscripted recruits, numbering 350,000, born in 1914, reported for medical examination to-day. An equal number born in 1915 will later be medically examined for labour service, in which they must serve prior to joining the army. The recruits are cheerful and enthusiastic, and a high percentage are reported to be in the best physical condition. The birth of the new army is raising enthusiasm throughout the country. Thousands of youths are volunteering for service.
