THE WEATHER.
DREARY SKIES TO-DAY. A return to unpleasant weather conditions was experienced in Ashburton to-day. During the night the sky clouded over and a light rain set in about daybreak, three points being registered at the gauge in the Domain at 9 o'clock. Conditions were dreary throughout the day, a fine rain falling and a cold breeze blowing from the south-west. The barometer this morning stood at 20.02 inches. The highest reading of the thermometer yesterday was • 46.8 degrees and the lowest reading in the night was 34.7 degrees. There was a registration of 5.6 degrees of frost this morning.. TO-DAY'S FORECAST. (Per Prese Association). WELLINGTON, This Day, The Governmont Meteorologist, ai noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather : General inference: A cyclonic depression is centred over the northern half of the South Island, and is moving slowly eastward. Pressure, has risen rapidly over eastern Australia. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim 'to Oamaru is as follows: Winds tending southerly, and strong to gale force in places. Weather unsettled, with rain, seme heavy falls likely, with snow and hail in places. Temperatures cold. Seas becoming rough.
