YOUNG COUPLES.
HOUSING PROBLEMS LESSENED. The Stirlingshire town of Kilsyth is surely the happiest in the world for newly-weds. Even the councillors have set out on a campaign to make them happy. Young married folk, fresh from their honeymoons, can come home to a new house and find it equipped with much of tho essential furniture—even to an oak bedstead in every bedroom. It is all part of the council's new housing scheme. Tho following are some other features of the furnishing arrangements which will relieve young married couples of a great deal of expenditure that might otherwise delay them in settling down in their own home. 'The new houses have a sideboard in the dining room, and in the kitchen there is a washing machine, where the housewife simply puts in the clothes lets them stand for a few minutes, turns the handle for a little while and then finds the clothes ready to 'hang out to dry. When the clothes are dry the wife will find an ironing board all ready to complete the day's task, and then there is a gas cooker, provided free, so that she will not have too much trouble in cooking the dinner. AH these facilities are given free for a rent of 4s 9cl for a three-roomed house, or 5s 9d for a five-roomed house. Should the "newly-weds" still be embarrassed for money to provide the other requirements of a comfortable home, the council will provide them with mattresses, pillows and other bedding requisites for another shilling a week on tho rent until the extras are paid for.
