COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. A successful and enjoyable dance was held in the. Anglican Hall on Saturday night under the auspices of the Methven Football Club. There was a good attendance. Music for the dance was supplied by Cook's orchestra, extras being played by Messrs K. Cook and J. Cretney. Mr W. Grieve was master of ceremonies. This dance was to have followed the football match between Methven and the • County representative team, but as this was postponed until next Saturday another dance has been arranged at which the visiting players will be entertained. GREENSTREET A dance was held on June 3 in aid of the school funds. Items were given as follow: —Pianoforte duets, Misses A. Ruddock and G. Woods; songs, Mr E. Coker. Dancing wasi enjoyed to music supplied by Mrs J. Hill, Messrs C. and H. Hunt, R. Aschen, and J. Hill. Mr F. Cass was M.C. The Women's Division of the Farmers' Union met in the school, when there was a good attendance of members. Competitions were won as follow:—Fancy apron: Miss L. Hunt 1, Mrs R. Cass 2, Miss N. Hill 3. Plain apron: Miss D. Lilley 1, Mrs J. Hill 2. Next month's competition will be for an article made from a flour bag. The Bible Class held a successful social, all present spending a thoroughly enjoyable evening. RAKAIA. The Rakaia Football Club held its weekly social and card evening in St. Mark's Schoolroom on Saturday. The winners at euchre were Mrs R. Tatterson and Mr D. Donaldson. Mr T. Lawler played the music for the dance. Mr F. Cornelius was master of ceremonies. SEAFIELD. The fourth birthday of the Seafield Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held in the Seafield Schoolroom on Friday evening, when there was a record attendance, of members and friends from all the surrounding districts. The room was decorated with greenery and streamers of the division colours. The first part of the evening took the form of a concert. Items were as fellow: —Opening chorus, by the junior members; pianoforte solo 3 Miss Hetty Johnson; song, Mr Webster; violin solo, Mr Allan Baynes ; chorus by junior members; flute solo, Mr R. Wildey; songs, Miss Phyllis O'Grady; pianoforte duet,j|Miss Nancy Bennison and Miss Joyce Brace; song,, Mr Webster, with obbligato by Mr P. McLauchlan; monologue, Miss Rona Watts; song, Miss Kathleen Lambie; duet in character, Miss Hetty Johnson and Miss Joyce Bruce; song, Miss Sheila Lambie; violin solo, Mr Peter McLauchlan; play by the junior members, "The Advertisement," Misses L. Green, J. Bruce, M. Martin, N. Bennison, J. Mitchell and Mr Alister Martin. The accompaniments were played by Mrs H. J. Chapman and Miss H. Johnson. During the supper interval the president (Mr R. J. Martin) extended a welcome to all present. Representatives were present from the executive (Mrs F. Johnson), Rokeby-Mitcham Women's Division (Mrs W. Copland and Mrs Penney), Ashburton Women's Division (Mrs Begg), Chertsey and Pcndarves Institute (Mrs J. W. Watson and Miss Lorna Lambie), Seafield Farmers' Union (Mr Johnson). The birthday cake, which Cvas made by Mrs H. L. (Driscoli and iced by Miss Hetty John- : son, was cut by Mrs Driscoli. Congratulations were received from all the representatives. For the dance which followed, the music was supplied by Mrs H. J. Chapman. The prize for the Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Lorna Lambie and Mr P. McLauchlan, and a novelty dance was won by Miss Mary Martin and Mr C. Begg. Mr W. Johnson was M.C.
