Mr C. Bax leaves fay steamer to-night for Wellington to represent the Amalgamated Engineers on the Motor Mechanics'llegistration Beard.

Mr S. W. Gower (president of the Mid-Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Educational Institute) is visiting Wellington as the branch's representative at the annual meeting of the institute.

Prior to the opening of the meeting of the Ashburton Hospital Board this morning, members extended congratulations to the chairman (Mr W. G. Gallagher), who was a recipient of the King's Silver Jubilee Medal.

A "Gazette" notice states that Second-Lieutenants J. S. Quinn and A. I. Garriock, of C Company (Ashburton Territorials), First Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant as from November 11, 1934.

Mr Raymond Oakley (president of the Mid-Canterbury Provincial Executive of the Farmers' Union) left this afternoon on his way to Wellington to attend a (Dominion executive meeting, which will commence on Wednesday.

Mr A. J. Ohing, who has been clerk of the Ashburton Magistrate's Court since January, 1931, has been transferred to Whangarei, and will be succeeded in Ashburton by Mr J. J. W. Pooley, of Stratford. Mr Ohing, who was stationed at Hawera before coming to Ashburton, expects to leave for the north at an early date.
