PRESENTATION TO MISS MASON. GIFTS FROM STAFF AND PUPILS. THE ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL. The pupils of the High School were assembled this morning to farewell Miss R. Mason, M.A., who is leaving the school for promotion in the South Otago High School, Balclutha.. The headmaster (Air E. A. Cockroft) eulogised the work and qualities of Miss Mason and thanked her for her invaluable assistance as senior mistress during recent years. He said that no headmaster could wish for a more conscientious and more thorough teacher. Miss Mason had shown her enthusiasm both in the work of the school and in its outside activities. No one deserved promotion more than she did, and although everyone was sorry to lose her presence, all rejoiced that she was progressing in her profession. Joan Cookson (the head girl) thanked Miss Mason for all the many things she had done for the girls in and outside the school walls; for her interest in hockey, in the Drama Circle of the school, and in the Students’ Union movement.

E. Osborne (the head prefect) spoke particularly on behalf of the boys, and endorsed all that the previous speakers had said.

Miss Mason was presented with a crystal electric reading lamp as a gift frofn the pupils. Later in the day Miss Mason was the recipient of a further present from the members of the staff, this taking the form of an afternoon tea table.
