USE FOR SOCIALS.

ASHBURTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL. OLD PUPILS GIVEN PERMISSION. . The recently-formed Old Pupils Association of the Ashburton Technical High School was last evening granted by the Board of Managers the exclusive right to use the school for social functions. In accordance with notice, Mr A. L. Jones (chairman) moved that the resolution on the Board’s hooks refusing the use of the school for social puiposes be rescinded and this was seconded by Mr IV. G. Hillier and carried, Mr Hillier stressing the need for strict supervision in the future. Mr IV. Brainley contended that the old pupils had reached the age of discretion, and Mrs J. IV. Tinker said she thought they would have sufficient pride in their old school to take every care of the buildings and properties. On the motion of Messrs E. Buchanan and C. 11. F. Maynard, permission to use the school for social functions was granted to the Old Pupils’ Association only, and this subject to the supervision of the Principal (Mr R. J. Thompson). An invitation to members and their wives to attend the first function tomorrow evening was accepted with thanks. It was stated that the Association intended to arrange a iiumbei of evenings during the winter to biing ox-pupils together, and members expressed satisfaction at this proposal. It is expected that there will he a large attendance at the dance tomorrow.
