MUCH INDIGNATION.
ALLEGATION OF IMMORALITY. RUSSIAN WOMEN IN CHINA. (United Press Association —Copyright). SHANGHAI, May 9. The Russian community of Shanghai is incensed at a report issued by the League of Nations which states that out of 10,000 Russian women in Shanghai, of whom 7200 are between the ages of 16 and *ls, at least per cent, are women of ill-fame. Further fuel has been added to the five by V, statement made by Father Robert, head of Catholic missions in China, before the League Commission, that out of 20,000 Russian women residing in his territory, from 3000 to 6000 are prostitutes. The various Russian societies of Shanghai, Tientsin, Harbin and Mukden are sending a joint protest t° the League denying this “wholesale slander” and declaring that while Russian emigres have had their full share of misfortune, the majority of their women have stoically resisted immoral means of livelihood.
