MAYOR OF MARTON.

LONG RECORD OF SERVICE. (Per Press Association). MARTON, May 9. With fifty years to liis credit in local body service, Mr F. Purnell last evening entered a new term as Mayor after thirteen years and a half in that capacity. The occasion was marked by a ceremony unusual in Marten, by the induction at a public meeting of the Mayor and councillors, all having been returned unopposed. Replying to eulogistic speeches and a presentation, Mr Purnell said it was well to remember that New Zealand was a young country and should not attempt to do things too quickly. Along the present lines, Marton was entirely free of debt for fifteen years.
