COMMERCIAL FLYING.
NON-STOP ACROSS AMERICA. NEW METHOD OF NAVIGATION. (United Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, May 1. A new aircraft known as the "mystery transport 'plane," owned by Transcontinental and Western Airlines, Inc., and reported to be navigated by a mechanical pilot, arrived at New York at 6.59 o'clock to-night, making a record commercial flight from Los \ngeles in llhr smin non-stop, at an average speed of 220 miles an hour.

The aviation correspondent of the "Dailv Telegraph," referring to the Air Ministry's offer of a prize _of £25 000 for a medium-sized commercial transport machine, says: "In the-pre-sent form the aircraft industry has rejected the offer and there have been no entries. The prize must be much bigger and the plans must be altered or there will be no competition.

TWO 'PLANES IN FORMATION
SYDNEY, May 1
Sir Charles Kingsford Smith nounced to-day that the monoplane Faith in Australia will accompany the Southern Cross on a flight across the Tasman Sea on May 14, the intention being, upon the return flight, to bring New Zealand in direct air mail contact with London for the first time. &r Charles will pilot the Southern Cross, with Mr John Stannage as radio operator, and Captain Taylor will pilot the Faith in Australia, with Mr b. Colvin as radio operator. The planes will fly m formation to New Zealand.
