BOXING.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION. PROGRAMME FOR FIRST TOURNEY. A meeting of the match committee of the Ashburton Boxing Association was held last evening, Mr W. R. Tucker presiding. The following programme for the opening tournament, to- be held next Thursday, was drawn up : Bantam-weight—A. Copland y. Voight (Christchurch), S. Guthrie v. Christchurch opponent. Fly-weight—J. Brick v. D. Penney. Welter-weight—R. Somerviile v. LTowers, M. Vessey v. N. Whearty. Light-weight—N. Kerr v. C. Clark, W. Prendergast v. Thomas (Christchurch). Middle-weight—A. Argyle v. Cobden, P. Sheehan v. P. Smythe. Heavy-weight—R. Hawke v. RRaines. . . .

The Greymouth Boxing Association advised that it would be prepared to send a team to Ashburton on June 1. It was agreed to accept the offer, and to suggest that a team of eight, comprising heavy, light-heavy, middle, welter, light, bantam and featherweights be brought over. The judges halve awarded the cup for the most improved novice last season to R. Hawke, and it is proposed to make the presentation on the opening night.
