HOSPITAL WAGE CUTS.
MOVE FOR RESTORATION. AUCKLAND BOARD’S DECISION. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 30. The ruling by the Health Department in a circular letter last week that the original 10 per cent, cut in salaries and 1 wages imposed in 1931 is not to be restored by hospital boards, either in part or in whole, until specific approval is given, was discussed, at a special meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board.
The Board decided that in view of its improved financial position, it would press for official permission to restore the cuts as decided on in a resolution passed a fortnight ago. The chairman (Mr \V. Wallace) said that the cuts would' have to be restored .and if possible salaries increased in order to get back to better conditions. It was thought tiie Government would have welcomed the action of the Auckland Board in restoring the cut as a lead to other hospital boards. “We should refuse to take the Department’s ruling as the last word in this matter,” Mr Wallace added.
