PERSONAL.

Mr C. Ri. Orr-Walker, S.M., who has been spending a holiday in the Mackenzie Country after a short illness, has returned to Timaru much benefited in health.

Major-General Sir William L. H. Sinclair-Burgess (G.0.C., New Zealand Military Forces), was a passenger for Dunedin on the south-bound express train this morning.

Sister E. Williams (matron of Oakhurst Private Hospital) who has been on a three months’ visit to Australia, returned to Ashburton by the first express this morning.

Mr A. Marks, of Auckland, has has been appointed by the New 1 Zealand Council of the British and Foreign Bible Society as its organising secretary for the Canterbury-Westland area, in succession to the Rev. A. W. Stuart.

Air R. A. Collins was last evening elected chairman of the board of Directors of the Ashburton Permanent Building and Investment Society in place of Mr F. W. AVatt, who has been indisposed for some time. Air E. F. Nieoll was elected deputy-chairman.

Alessrs G. D. H. Hefford (representing Grand Chanter Court No. 1, A.0.F.), AV. S. Kerr, R. AA r . Crowther, W. H. Amos (Court Ashburton, A.0.F.), D.' G. Smith (Court Pride of Ashburton, juveniles), and J. H. AVard (P.D.0.R.), will attend the seventysecond annual meeting of the Canterbury United District, A.0.F., at Belfast to-morrow.

Mr E. D. Alosley, S.M., after considering the question of his appointment as senior Magistrate at Wellington, has decided to accept the office and he will leave Christchurch as soon as i he has settled private affairs. His place on the Christchurch Bench will be taken by Air E'. C. Levvey, S.AI. A new Alagistrate will probably be appointed to fill the vacancy caused by the transfer cf Air H. P. Lowry, S.AI., to AVellington.
