The British hardcourt tennis championship tournament was opened at Bournemouth to-day. 'ln the first round of the men's singles H. W. Austin defeated Tuekey, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; C. E. Malfroy (New Zealand) defeated R. H. Shayes, 6-0, 6-4, 6-0; A. O. Stedman ((New Zealand) defeated D l . W. Butler, 6-2,. 6-2, 6-4. F. J. Perrv defeated J. D. Morns, 6-1, 6-3, 6-I.*
THE MONTE CARLO TOURNAMENT (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) MONTE CARLO, April 29. The Monte Carlo lawn tenuis tournament was continued to-day. Results: Men's Doubles—Final: Hin.es and Culley (England) defeated H. O. Hopman (Australia) and Bernard, 2-6. 8-6, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4. Mixed Doubles Hopman and Madame Mathieu defeated Hines and Miss Belliard, 6-1, 6-4. Men's Singles—Semi-final: V. McGrath l(Australia) defeated A. Quist (Australia), 7-5, 4-6, 6-2.
