SONS OF TEMPERANCE.
NEW ZEALAND DIVISION. The 36th annual meeting of the New Zealand Division of the Sons of Temperance was held in Wellington last Saturday. There was a. good attendance of representatives of the various divisions throughout the Dominion. The Most Worthy Patriarch (Bro W. C. Noakes) presided. In his address he reviewed the activities of the last year and reported on his visits to outlying divisions, emphasising the value of counsel and advice to those carrying on the work in outside districts. A memorial service was held in memory of members who had died during the year, special mention being made of the services given to the Order by Bro. A. T. Hoddinott. The Order was congratulated on the increase of membership. The membership shield was won by the Ashburton Division for the third' time in succession.
The financial position of the Order showed accumulated funds amounting to £30,210, cash benefits paid to members during the year being £1045. A fund had been established for the assistance of unemployed members, and this, had proved of considerable benefit. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Patriarch, Bro. G. It. Simpson (Wanganui); associate, Bro. W. Fergie; scribe, Bra J. H Jones; treasurer, Bro. K. .Billclvtt; chaplain, Bro. C. S. Clements j conductor, Bro. E. C. Kennett; sentinel, Bro. T O Parsons ; trustees, Bros. C. Kent, J. Ford, W. Crawley j superintendent of juveniles, Bro. W. C. Noal.es; auditors, Bros. V. Bedwell and G. Woodham. The next meeting will be held in Christchurch.
