ASHBURTON COUNTY ELECTIONS MANY CANDIDATES NOMINATED. POLLS DUE IN ALL ISSUES. VOTING IN ONE COUNTY RIDING. Nominations of candidates for the Ashburton County Council, the Lyttelton Harbour Board, and country members for the Ashburton Hospital and Ashburton Electric Power Boards closed with the Returning Officer (Mr G. Kelly) at noon tc-day. There will be an election in each one' of these issues, though so far as the County Council is concerned the polling will be confined to the Mount Hutt Riding, where three new candidates are opposing the two sitting members (Messrs J. Carr and R. W. Wightinan). The new candidates are Messrs C. A. Campion, H. B. A. 'Lock and C. Stockdill. In all other ridings of the County the sitting members have been returned unopposed andi have been declared elected.

Eight candidates have been nominated for six seats on the Ashburton Hospital Board. The sitting members (Messrs W. G. Gallagher, G. S. Hardy, F. Frampton, W. H. Wilkinson, Raymond Oakley and C. A. Campion) have all been nominated and the two new candidates are Messrs R. W. Wightinan and H. E. Jessep. There is also a surplus of two in the candidates nominated for the Power Board. The sitting members (Messrs J, W- M. Dart, H. J. Crothers, H. C. Barton, H. Morris, R. J. Mulligan, J. Lambie, W. G. Gallagher and J. Garr) have been nominated, and the new candidates are Messrs R. W. Wightmaii and S.. P- Taylor. The two sitting members of the Lyttelton Harbour Board (Messrs J. W. Bowden and W. G. Gallagher) are being opposed by Mr R. W. Wightman. The taking of a poll in this issue has been considerably complicated by reason of the fact that the voting will close at 6 o'clock, whereas the voting on all other issues will continue till 7 o'clock. This will necessitate a special booth for the Harbour Board poll, as voting will have to be cone in a separate building. Details of the nominations are as follow :

THE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

FEW NOMINATIONS RECEIVED. CLQSING DATE IS FRIDAY. So far, only four nominations have been received by the Returning Officer (Mr W. Patterson) in connection with the elections to be held in Ashburton Borough on May 8. Nominations close ■at noon on Friday, and Anzac Day falling to-morrow leaves only Friday morning for the handing in of nomination papers. THE DUNEDIN CITY COUNCIL. DUNEDIN, This Day. The Rev. E. S. Cox (present Mayor), Mr J. J. Marlow (a City Councillor) and Mr R. S. Black -(ex-Mayor) have been nominated for the City Mayoralty. For 12 seats on the Council 31 have been nominated, including full tickets by the Citizens' Association and the Labour Party.
