PERSONAL.

Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., was a visitor to Ashburton to-day.

Mrs E. R, McCombs, M.P., of Christchurch, was in Ashburton to-day for the wedding of her son, Mr J. McCombs.

Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P. (Mayor of Christchurch), and Mrs Sullivan,arrived in Ashburton by car this morning, and returned north this afternoon.

Mr S. H. Sullivan (headmaster of the Waimataitai School, Timaru), who was injured in a motor accident recently, is making a good recovery, and was able to return to his home yesterday.

;Pastor J. A. Tyrrell-Baxter, of Oamaru, arrived in Ashburton from the north this morning. He will speak in the Ashburton Church of Christ this evening.

Mr S. G. Macfarlane, who has been attending the first Dominion conference of. basketball referees in Wellington, will return to Ashburton to-mor-row morning.

Mr A. S. Richards, M.P. for Roskill, will arrive in Ashburton on Saturday morning, and will address meetings throughout the district in the interests of the Labour Party.

Mr D. J. Maher, who has been attached to the Ashburton Post Office for the last six months, left last evening on transfer to Wellington, where he will l join the telegraph branch.

Mr J. MacMillan (president of the Ashburton Rugby Referees' Association), who has been attending the annual conference of the New Zealand Association in Invtercargill, returned to Ashburton last evening.

Lieutenant - Colonel J, Hargest, D. 5.0., M.C., V.D., M.P., who will be the chief speaker at the Anzac Day services to-morrow, will arrive in Ashburton by the express train this evening. He will be the guest of the Rev. R. S. Watson, M. 0., and will return to Invercargill on Friday morning.

Messrs W. J. Brown, E. G. Church, J. H. Ward and W. Croy, of Ashburton, who attended the Loyal Orange Grand Lodge annual meeting in Timaru, have returned from the south. Mr Brown retired from the position of D'istrict Master, and Mr Church was appointed to that office, while Mr Brown was elected Grand Chaplain of the Black Chapter.
