WOOL PROSPECTS

MARKET AT STRONG POINT, DEMAND FOR FINE SORTS. CROSSBREDS MORE DIFFICULT. (United Press Association—Copyright) (Received! This Day, 1.10 p.m.) LONDON, April 20. The Bradford correspondent of the /'Yorkshire Post" says that Easter sees almost all sections of the market at the strongest point during recent weeks. Spinners are keenly interested in the market for both average warp types, bidding about a halfpenny under current quotations, but they find that topmakers are adopting a firm attitude in the expectation of Australian wool values being fully maintained after the holidays.

The Biadford correspondent of the "Yorkshire Observer" reports that the prices obtainable for fine tops are nearer avool replacement costs than they have been for a while past. It is now generally realised that there will not be too much merino wool available. Buyers of all nations seem to feel that fine wools are not likely to be cheaper and they are operating accordingly. Moreover it is believed that there will shortly be another substantial demand for scoured matchings in merino types by Germany and Russia, which Bradford firms want to be in a position to meet. The position in the crossbred section is more difficult. More could be done if topmakers were in a position to accept slightly lower prices.
