JOCKEY INJURED, (Pot Press Association}. : AUCKLAND, April 20. R. E. Thompson, rider of Val Watch in the Brighton Hurdles, at the Auckland Racing Club's meeting to-day, was thrown heavily when the horse fell at the second fence. The jockey, who is 29 years of age, and a wellknown North Island rider, suffered severe.injuries to his head and a fractured collarbone. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.
\ u . 'youNGioy killed. : DUNEDIN, April 21. An accident which resulted in the death: of &. five-year-old boy, Arnold Healey, who lived with his parents at 23 Shortlahd Street, Caversham, occurred on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Marion and David Streets. A motor-lorry, in avoiding a collision with a' motoiv-car, swerved on to the footpath and struck the boy, who was taken to hospital at 4.40 p.m. suffering from extensive injuries to the head and body, from which he died at 2.30 a.m. to-day.
BOY IN SERIOUS CONDITION. DUNEDIN, April 21. A collision between a motor-car and cycle, in which a boy named Ronald Erridge, aged 13, received serious injuries to his head, occurred at the junction of the Octagon and Lower Stuart Street at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. The car, which was driven by a man named Edward Richard Quin, struck the boyi and carried him across the road, where he was jammed against a stationary motor-cycle. He was taken to hospital in a precarious condition and to-day showed no improvement.
